Enjoy a
Field Trip to
LYKKE Kids!

Educational and FUN!

Visit our open-ended, creative space designed for exploration, creation, and learning. Kids (and grown-ups) will enjoy…

  • a 9ft tall maple playhouse with open-ended materials
    to spark imaginative play

  • an enormous sandbox filled with sparkling white play sand to tinker and experiment with, using a variety of materials and tools

  • an imaginative play room with a diverse collection of dolls, figurines, and vehicles to foster storytelling

  • a construction room for designing and building (with access to a variety of building materials, tools, and hot glue guns)

  • an art studio for creation (keeps the mess out of your classroom / space and provides access to a variety of beautiful materials)

  • a woodworking shop for building (includes kid-friendly tools and materials)

  • and a discovery zone!

It’s fun to see
what kids can do
in a space that’s designed for them.

Kindergarten Teacher, private school in Toronto

“The kids were so focused and determined. We usually don’t see that same level of perseverance at school.”

Kindergarten / Grade 1 teacher, York Region District School Board

“Students will have the opportunity to engage in deep play. There are many opportunities for students to follow their curiosities and engage in play that meets their needs as a capable and competent learner.”

A Field Trip that’s for
kids AND grown-ups!

  • Inspiration for your Classroom

A physical space can have significant impact on a child’s development - being the third teacher after the parent and the classroom teacher.

Visit LYKKE Kids for inspiration in designing your own learning space for students - a space that sparks a love of learning, while encouraging kids to collaborate, communicate, create, experiment, and explore!

Teachers, ECEs, and admin have left so excited with ideas and things they’d like to try in their own spaces.

  • Seeing Something New

An environment can either enhance learning or detract from it, and can help shape children's identities and support their unique learning paths (The Learning Environment, ontario.ca)

Every kid is unique. And we all have that student (or a few or many) that are a puzzle. We try to think of ways to reach them or engage them, but nothing seems to work. Come and observe them in a new setting.

Teachers have been surprised to see what kids gravitate towards in a new environment and what has sparked their interest. It’s neat to see (and helpful to know).

  • Enjoy the Magic

Yes! We love seeing educators enjoying themselves in the space. Instead of racing around doing head counts, keeping track of everyone, and making sure the kids are sitting and listening to the speaker / instructor, enjoy sitting with a cup of coffee or tea as the kids create, tinker and collaborate. For real, it’s so fun to watch them work their magic.

We love that this is a different kind of field trip experience for you (and the kids). The benefit of having a space designed for kids is that they feel empowered to independently access materials and make choices based on their own interests and strengths. The kids are all engaged. The hardest part is leaving. Grown-ups want to stay too :)

We have an art studio filled with pastels, beautiful watercolour paints, glitter glue, and all the things we don’t often have in our classrooms (or don’t always want to clean up afterwards). Our construction room is fully stocked with materials and tools. They have what they need to bring their ideas to life.

    Fellow teachers have left saying,
“I’m telling everyone at our school.”

Location: 2038 Danforth Ave.

Within walking distance for many local schools (Earl Haig,
Earl Beatty, St. Brigid’s, Gledhill) and just a 3 minute walk from Woodbine Subway Station.

Note:
East Lynn Park is also right across the street - a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch together afterwards and play at the playground. A fun day together!

by a fellow educator…

Hi there!

My name is Lainie! I’m the creator of LYKKE Kids TM.

I was a K-10 teacher (OCT, B.A., B.Ed., and M.Ed.) until I had our 3 kids and chose to create a different path (a scary decision, but I went for it).

I began my teaching career with the District School Board of Niagara. In my first LTO, I was as a school art teacher and librarian. I later had a grade 6 and grade 6/7 homeroom before moving to York Region District School Board (YRDSB) where I taught for 10 years.

In YRDSB, I loved teaching in all divisions. When I started becoming more curious about math instruction, I met the most amazing mentors - our board literacy and mathematics consultants came to co-teach with me. It was incredible to have someone at your side to share observations with, to talk next steps, to have someone model open ended questioning. Usually we’re on our own figuring things out. It was the most powerful learning I had ever done. I wanted to be able to do the same thing for someone else.

Fast forward, I became a literacy and mathematics consultant for our school board. I joined a team of consultants who LOVED learning, reading, and kids. I was out in schools across the board, co-planning and co-teaching with fellow teachers. Trying to figure out how to reach the kids together and support their learning. Then later I joined a team that used technology to create online resources, courses, and more for teachers. It’s what I did before having our kids.

So what’s fun when you come for a field trip is that you have another teacher to think things through with. Someone who has been in many different settings, has learned through her own kids, and still has lots of questions and continues to read research and materials related to supporting kids.

Can’t wait for you to visit, and to meet you and your kids!

Lainie
