The Walk Over

We’re approximately are a 3 minute walk from Woodbine Station.

Arrival

When you arrive, please line up outside the building (2038 Danforth Ave) and Lainie (the owner) will come out to welcome you all!

There are coat hooks and shoe racks at the front door (at the kids’ level). They can put their things away and then join us inside on
the rug with their backpacks.

Before we begin, we’ll share how the space works (what it’s about, how we care for the materials, how we move about the space) and
we’ll give the group a little tour. After that, we’ll show the kids where to put their backpacks and they can enjoy the space!

Who Am I

Our program is play-based and child-led. LYKKE Kids has been designed with Environment as Third Teacher in mind.

Open-ended, age appropriate materials are placed at their level. Kids are welcome to choose where they wish to engage, for how long, and with what materials. Flowing in and out of spaces that interest them - for the duration of their visit.

The Physical Space (logistics)

Kids (and grown-ups) are welcome to bring their own drinks and nut-free snacks. We have a space at the back where everyone can eat.

There are 3 washrooms. The middle washroom was designed for little ones - with a small, child-sized toilet and sink. The washrooms are located downstairs, with an additional child stair railing to support them.

Supervision

We ask for a 1:5 ratio for supervision of the kids during their visit (through parent volunteers or your fellow colleagues).

Supervision at LYKKE Kids is a bit different than a regular field trip in that a parent volunteer won’t keep their small group together and with them at all times. Kids have different interests and they may wish to venture into different areas of the space (which is actually what we want to see - kids exploring and following their interests).
Parent volunteers may float around the space or you might wish to designate them to a particular area (e.g., the art studio).
